Egypt Records Increase To 14,548 Traffic Accidents

The Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) has released their latest traffic accident statistical findings for 2015, reports the Cairo Post.

According to CAPMAS, Egypt suffered 14,548 accidents in 2015 – a one percent increase from 2014’s figures – which resulted in 6,203 deaths and 19,325 injuries.

The most road accidents took place in Giza, which saw 1,704 incidents resulting in 474 deaths, while Damietta recorded the least amount of accidents with 85 incidents resulting in 82 deaths. The highest mortality rates occurred among the age group from 25 to 44.  

A statement by CAPMAS read that “63.3 percent of accidents on highways in 2015 are due to human error, followed by the technical status of the vehicle recording 22.9 percent.”

Railroad accidents also marked an 18.3 percent increase, going from 1,044 in 2014 to 1,235 in 2015 due to neglecting railroad level crossings, according to CAPMAS.
