20 Tombs Dating Back to the 26th Dynasty Unearthed In Damietta

A team of Egyptian archaeologists uncovered twenty tombs in Damietta governorate, dating back to the 26th Dynasty. The tombs uncovered deities of Isis, Bastet and Horus depicted as winged falcons, as well as gold fragments. 

The archaeological mission also unearthed funerary amulets, canopic jars symbolising the four sons of the Ancient Egyptian God Horus, and a headrest. The discovery revealed a variety of burial sites and rituals historically practised in Damietta, and according to Mostafa Waziri, Secretary General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities, it will rewrite the history of the governorate.
