20 Years of Contemporary Dance: MAAT to Celebrate Anniversary Across Cairo

MAAT for Contemporary Art is celebrating its 20th anniversary, starting from December 7th to December 21st. Considered the first contemporary dance company in the country, MAAT was established in 1999 by UNESCO Dance Council member Karima Mansour. A number of different events will be held throughout Cairo in a festival called 20 Years MAAT, including live performances, talks and a day of free dance lessons.

From December 8th to December 12th, live performances by the company's current students and alumni will be presented at AUC's Falaki Theatre, starting 8 pm. There will also be performances from MAAT's Outreach Programme, which collaborated with Agouza Girls' Home, Ana Masry Foundation, Banaty Foundation and FACE Foundation to educate homeless and disadvantaged children and teenagers in the performance arts.

On December 14th, MAAT and the Cairo Contemporary Dance Centre in Mohandessin will open their doors for a day of free classes. A similar offer will also be available in New Cairo on December 21st, in collaboration with B-Hub.
