21 New Desalination Plants Will Be Built in Egypt

The Sovereign Fund of Egypt announced a new water desalination project, with 21 desalination plants worth $3 billion in investments to be constructed during the project’s first phase.

The desalination programme aims to decrease Egypt’s reliance on the Nile River as the country’s main freshwater source. The 21 plants are expected to generate 3.3 million cubic metres of water daily during its first phase, and then expand to 8.8 million cubic metres later on.

The Sovereign Fund of Egypt plans to award global private investors with investment deals in the project in 2023.
