216 Churches Have Been Officially Licensed This Week

The Egyptian government has officially authorized the licenses of 216 churches this week.

A committee for this sole purpose was initially created in 2017 after high demands by civil society. The push for more leeway in the legislation regarding the construction and renovations of churches was enforced in 2016.

The number of the spaces of worship has now increased to 2,815 since the committee was established.
