Abeer Abdel Rahman Becomes First Egyptian Woman Ever to Win an Olympic Medal

Egyptian female weightlifter Abeer Abdelrahman has just been awarded the silver Olympic medal which she had earned in the 2012 London Olympics, becoming the first Egyptian woman ever to win an Olympic medal, reports Al Araby.

Abdelrahman had originally come in fifth place and the silver medal had originally gone to Natalya Zabolotnaya form Russia in the 75 KG class. However, the 24-year-old Egyptian athlete moved up to third place after a number of higher ranking weightlifters were disqualified for doping charges.

Egyptian weightlifter Tarek Yehia has also received a belated bronze medal from the London Olympics 2012 after the disqualification of Russia’s Apti Aukhadov.
