Ain Shams University Medical Students Gather Medical Supplies Donations
A group of Ain Shams University medical students have teamed up to supply El-Demerdash Teaching Hospital with masks, gloves and disinfectants.
5th-year Ain Shams University medical student Mariam Mohey El-Din joined forces with her classmates to collect donated medical supplies for the other prospective doctors and nurses training at Ain Shams’ teaching hospital, Al-Demerdash.
The Coronavirus has pushed a lot of people to panic-buy crucial protective supplies such as masks, gloves and disinfectants, without leaving much behind for the medical trainees fighting on the front lines.
“Doctors are not only struggling to find these products at an affordable price - mask prices, for example, have hiked up to EGP 15 from EGP 1 - but struggle to find them altogether," Mohey El-Din said. "The hospital is stretched thin on resources.”
The students behind this initiative are also on the look-out for pharmacies who would be willing to offer bulk amounts of these supplies at discounted prices to support the cause. The students are hoping to expand and build contacts to eventually help out other teaching hospitals.
If you’re interested in donating masks, gloves or disinfectant sprays, you can drop them off at the reception desk of Al-Demerdash hospital at 56 Ramses Street, Abbaseya. They’re also currently assigning staff at the teaching hospital to collect these donations directly from donors in different areas around Cairo.
