Al-Azhar Approves Suspension of Friday Prayers on Account of Coronavirus Outbreak

Due to the rising concerns around the Coronavirus outbreak, Al-Azhar’s Council of Senior Scholars have issued a temporary halt on Friday prayers. The Council explained this preventative measure would not clash with Sharia law as it had been implemented to protect the masses. They also urged officials to make all possible efforts to help contain the virus and limit mass gatherings.
