Alchemy's Magical Brunch

Sick of curfews, technology and your overly-modern reality? Alchemy feels you...

Staff Writer

There's a certain undeniable allure to magic; the concept of waving a magic wand or brewing a potion that will help you achieve whatever you want is simply (forgive the redundancy) magical. A lot of cultures used to believe in sourcery, specifically the Ancient Egyptians. Amongst all of the magical and mystical traditions, however, alchemy (the process of transforming non-precious metals into gold) was the most common and widely celebrated. But then technology took over, and the magic was gone, replaced by mundane things like physics and chemistry (or, God forbid, mathematics). It was nice while it lasted, though.

One lounge in Egypt, however, decided to revive that age-old tradition of mysticism and allure. Alchemy is tavern with a theme; magic and mystery. From calling their drinks "potions" to playing around with the different alchemical elements (earth, air, water, fire) this snug, tucked-away hot spot is the place to go to refresh your inner sorcerer and to revive your faith in the existence of magic. From the décor to the menu, everything about this restaurant screams medieval and in a time where modernism is rampant, this is an extremely welcome change.

Aside from their ethereal interiors and magical food (because their steaks ARE magical), Alchemy hosts a myriad of events in their bar-cum-restaurant, turning it into a social hub. Now, with our city under lockdown starting 7PM, "social" is a word we haven't heard in a while. Luckily, Alchemy have got our backs. From 12 PM to 6 PM, you can go and enjoy all the magical food and potions the restaurant has to offer, or, better yet, you can choose from one of the five set menus on offer to customise your brunch experience. From pancakes to burgers to juicy, succulent steaks, the brunch menus cover a wide range of food tastes that will surely have anyone transported to a mythical land where curfews don't exist and phones are crystal balls.

It's nice to know there's one place in Egypt that offers city inhabitants a chance to escape the tawdry and somewhat tumultuous daily life in the big city, providing a refuge where you can forget about everything that's going on in the city and sink your teeth in their delectable brunch offerings or refresh your senses with one of Alchemy's revitalising potions. And if there's one thing that's certain to put some magic back into your life, it's getting tipsy in the afternoon.
