Alexandria Film Festival to Honour Actress Menna Shalaby
Beyond her artistic achievements, Menna is also known for leveraging her fame to champion social causes.
The Alexandria Film Festival has announced that Egyptian film star Menna Shalaby will be honoured with an award at the opening ceremony of the festival’s 40th edition, scheduled to take place from October 1st to the 5th. The ceremony will be held at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina.
Renowned for her versatility in portraying both dramatic and light-hearted roles, Menna Shalaby is one of the most celebrated and respected actresses in Egypt and the Arab world. Menna began her career in 2001 with the film ‘The Magician’, alongside acclaimed actor Mahmoud Abdel Aziz. Her subsequent filmography includes notable successes such as ‘The Best of Times’ (2004), ‘Girls of Downtown’ (2005), ‘Wega’ (2005) and ‘About Love and Passion’ (2006). Her performance in ‘Chaos’ (2007), directed by the legendary Youssef Chahine, further cemented her reputation.
Menna has received numerous accolades, including Best Actress at the Catholic Center for Cinema Festival, and has been celebrated at both local and international festivals, such as the Dubai International Film Festival and the Cairo International Film Festival.
Beyond her artistic achievements, Menna is also known for leveraging her fame to champion social causes, including women's rights and youth empowerment.
The Alexandria Film Festival, held annually in Alexandria, is organised under the patronage of Dr. Ahmed Fouad Henein, Minister of Culture, and Major General Ahmed Khaled Hassan Said, Governor of Alexandria.
