The Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities has begun work on renovating Saray Al-Haqqania, Alexandria’s historic court of appeal. The 136-year-old court was built in 1886 under Khedive Tawfiq, and is considered one of the oldest courts in Egypt. The court has witnessed many historical cases,  including the infamous serial killer pair Raya and Sakina.

The EGP 150 million restoration project consists of two phases. The first phase will take two years to be completed, while the operation phase will take one year.

The court of appeal was previously restored in 1936.
