Baroness Minouche Shafik Named President of Columbia University

Nemat Talaat Shafik - aka Baroness Nemat Minouche Shafik - is a globally-acclaimed Egyptian-British-American economist, and the current director of the London School of Economics and Political Science.

Today, New York City's Columbia University announced that Baroness Shafik will be serving as its President starting July 1st, making history as the first woman to claim the position.

This isn’t the first time the Baroness made history, having previously served as the World Bank’s youngest-ever Vice President at the age of 36.

Minouche Shafik’s career has seen her hold top positions in both the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund, rise to major positions at various Ivy League universities, and publish a multitude of books and academic papers.
