Bisan Owda Wins Emmy Award for Outstanding Hard News Feature
This recognition comes just five days after the Television Academy rejected a campaign to rescind Owda's nomination.
Palestinian journalist Bisan Owda has won the Emmy Award for Outstanding Hard News Feature: Short Form for her ongoing project “It’s Bisan From Gaza and I’m Still Alive.” This recognition comes just five days after the Television Academy rejected a campaign to rescind her nomination for the 2024 News and Documentary Emmys.
The project chronicles Owda’s daily life in Gaza amidst the ongoing, escalated genocide in Gaza. Her regular updates, marked by the phrase “I’m still alive,” have resonated worldwide, highlighting the violence and harsh realities of life in Gaza over the past 11 months amid Israeli bombardment. Earlier this year, Owda also received a Peabody Award for “It’s Bisan From Gaza and I’m Still Alive.”
At the News & Documentary Emmys, she was nominated alongside the media outlet AJ+.
