The Ministry of Local Development has released new regulations to guide private cafes and restaurants that serve shisha.

Starting December 11th, restaurants and cafes that offer shisha are expected to hold a permit costing up to EGP 10,000 and install security cameras throughout the establishment, in accordance with the Supreme Committee for Public Shops Licensing regulations.

Most of these guidelines were originally issued in 2019, but were halted during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. Establishments are expected to re-apply for the new license if they wish to resume service.
