Cairo Bike Stations are Getting a Revamp in Downtown Cairo

Cairo Bike is undergoing a revival! The Cairo governorate has started implementing replacements for the 26 bike sharing stations that had been installed across Downtown Cairo, Zamalek and Garden City in October 2022.

The first phase of the overhaul will include 26 new stations complete with 250 bicycles in Downtown Cairo, with plans to reach a total of 45 stations and 500 bicycles throughout the capital in the upcoming months.

The revamp looks to maintain international standards and technical specifications, after a thorough evaluation of the initiative yielded unsatisfactory results for the state of the existing stations and bikes. The move follows the Cairo governorate’s recent dismissal of Danish operators Donkey Republic, which has been replaced with Egyptian bike sharing company Baddel.

The Cairo Bike initiative offers a sustainable solution for navigating the city’s congested roads, with bikes that can be rented through Cairo Bike’s website and paid for on credit starting at EGP 1 per hour. Egyptian citizens can subscribe to a yearly package starting at EGP 600, while high school and university students can get the same package for EGP 400.
