A new environmental campaign, dubbed ‘The Cool Cities and ME Campaign’, has been launched at the COP27 UN Climate Change Conference in Sharm El Sheikh. The campaign calls for urgent actions across increasing heat levels in urban areas, especially since MENA nations are becoming hotter at twice the global average rate.

‘The Cool Cities and ME Campaign’ will promote and implement on-ground changes that can help curb rising temperatures, including smart urban design solutions, tree planting initiatives, and cooling roofs and pavement materials.

The campaign sheds light on the need for mitigation of increasing heat at the micro and macro levels, as well as the importance of community engagement to combat climate change. The initiative is led by Yalla Healthy Living, an Egypt-based platform promoting sustainable solutions, in partnership with governmental institutions and private sector entities to address the issue through all avenues.
