Commemorative Plaque Placed Outside Home of Late Salah El-Saadany

A commemorative placard has been revealed outside the home of the late Salah El-Saadany commemorating his time there at 33 Ahmed Orabi Street in Agouza. As part of the ‘Lived Here’ initiative by the National Organization for Urban Coordination, the placard reads: ‘Here lived Salah El-Saadany, 23rd October 1943 - 19th April 2024’.

The actor and director passed away in April, leaving behind a long cinematic and theatrical legacy. He was known as the ‘Mayor of Egyptian Drama’ due to his many iconic roles, particularly that of Mayor Suleiman Ghanem in ‘Layaly El-Helmeya’.

El-Saadany acted in or directed around 35 plays, 45 television series and over 70 films throughout his lifetime. It was reportedly his dream to one day play the roles of the Presidents Gamal Abdel Nasser and Muhammed Anwar El-Sadat, though he is best known for memorable and diverse roles such as Al-Usta Hassan in the series ‘Arabesque’ and Nasr Wahdan Al-Qat in ‘Helm El-Janouby’.
