The Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, Ahmed Issa, has issued a decree to establish a scientific committee, led by archaeologist Dr. Zahi Hawass, to review the proposed architectural restoration project for the Menkaure Pyramid at Giza Plateau.

The project, initially announced by Dr. Mostafa Waziri, secretary-general of the Supreme Council of Antiquities of Egypt, aims to restore the pyramid through a three-year renovation effort. This collaboration between Waziri and a team of Japanese archaeological experts will focus on restoring the original granite covering of the pyramid.

Comprising experts in engineering and archaeology from Egypt, the United States, the Czech Republic, and Germany, the newly established committee will evaluate the joint project between the Supreme Council of Antiquities and Waseda University in Japan. Following the review, a detailed scientific report will be prepared, outlining the findings and recommending whether to proceed with the project.

The report will also detail coordination with UNESCO. The committee will await approval from the Minister before initiating any work at the site. The Supreme Council of Antiquities will provide the necessary data and documents. Upon completion, an international press conference will announce the committee's findings and decision regarding the project.
