Egypt and Germany are collaborating to create a modern, safe, and environmentally friendly railway system after signing a EUR 12 billion deal. This is a historic milestone in Egypt and Germany’s long-standing bilateral friendship, celebrating its 70th anniversary this year.

Siemens will offer a completely electrified railway network as well as the latest high-speed trains of the type used in Germany, such as Intercity Express (ICE) and regional freight trains.

Local groups will construct railway stations, tunnels, and bridges, as well as assist with foundation construction. These electrical lines will create around 45,000 local jobs and reduce emissions by 70% to 85%.

This second tranche will extend the line to Luxor and Aswan, to Abu Simbel and will extend the network to 2,000 km in total.
