The Egyptian government announced a new minimum wage of EGP 2,700 for workers in the private and public sectors.

Previously, the new minimum wage for private sector workers was announced to be EGP 2,400, to match the rising minimum wage for public sector workers. Now that we’re actually in January 2022, this wage has been revised and raised even further, in consideration of higher costs of living.

While the wage boost is expected to affect millions of workers in Egypt, there remains a challenge with informal companies, which is estimated to account for over 70% of Egyptian workers.
