Egypt Applies New Licensing Regulations for Shops

The goal is to integrate previously unlicensed, informal shops into Egypt’s regulated economic system in order to advance the economy.

Egypt is rolling out new licensing regulations for shops nationwide. The goal is to integrate previously unlicensed, informal shops into Egypt’s regulated economic system in order to advance the economy, open new areas for investment and increase the state’s public revenues.

The Ministry of Local Development is looking to get citizens to legalise their existing unlicensed shops, of which there are millions.

The Ministry will set up an electronic system to more easily connect people with authorities responsible for the licensing process.
