Egypt's Al-Dabaa Nuclear Project Awarded ATOMEXPO Prize as One of 3 Best Nuclear Projects Globally

The Minister of Electricity, Mohammad Shaker, has announced that Al-Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant project has been awarded the Rosatom Prize for being one of the best three projects within the Middle East, during the 11th edition of ATOMEXPO International Forum.

The Russian exhibition taking place in Sochi also saw Shaker confirm that the electricity sector is currently working on the implementation of its projects in full swing, and in accordance with the highest standards of safety and quality.

As part of the strategy set by the electricity and renewable energy sector, he stressed on the close cooperation between the Ministry of Electricity and the Ministry of Environment by generating electricity from different energy sources. This includes fossil fuel, clean coal, and renewable energy.

Earlier this month, the Egyptian Nuclear Regulation and Radiological Authority (ENRRA) granted Al-Dabaa a site approval permit. The 4,800 megawatt nuclear power plant will be located in the Matrouh governorate.

Al-Dabaa NPP will be the first project of its kind in the region and is expected to be completed by 2026.
