Egypt Dominates at African Games 2019 with Record-Breaking 229 Medals

Egypt has won a total of 229 medals at the 2019 African Games held in Moroccan capital Rabat. The championship, running from 19-31 August, has teams from all over Africa competing in swimming, judo, table tennis, weightlifting, handball, and taekewondo, in which Egypt won gold medals.

One of 52 competing nations, Egypt acquired 79 gold, 87 silver and 59 bronze, putting us ahead of Nigeria, South African, Algeria and hosts Morocco

Gold medalists include swimmers Hania Moro with four gold medals and Farida Osman with two silver and two gold in the individual category, and two silver medals in the team competition. Egyptian swimmer Ahmed Akram also grabbed both a gold and a bronze medal, while Marwan al-Kamash won a gold and a silver as well. Elsewhere, weightlifting champion, Sara Samir, won three gold medals.

Egypt’s Judo champions led by Ramadan Darwish also claimed four gold medals in addition to four other medals in the course of the championship. Judo was the first sport to host its medal events, which also took place at the Prince Moualy Abdallah Sports Complex.

The Egyptian National Team for Women had taekwondo champions Farida Askalany and Doaa Ghobashy take home a gold medal, adding to the other gold attained by Hedaya Malak and Maysoon Tolba.
