Egypt Launches National Basketball League for Deaf Girls

Egypt is kicking off its first edition of the National Basketball League for Deaf Girls with 17 teams from across the country.

On March 5th, Egypt kicked off its first official basketball league for girls with hearing impairments in Alexandria's city of Al-Shebabia Babi Qair. Dubbed 'National Basketball League for Deaf Girls', the event sees teams representing 17 of Egypt's governorates - from Cairo, Alexandria and Giza to Qena, Menoufia and North Sinai and more - go head to head in the spirit of competition and sportsmanship.

The tournament was launched by the Ministry of Youth and Sports to encourage girls to participate in sporting events and integrate the hearing impaired into athletic communities.
