Egypt Ranks Fourth Slowest Internet Speed in the World… Again

In case we needed yet another reminder that Egypt's internet speed is among the slowest in the world, the Speedtest Market Report ranked our Internet speed the 4th slowest in the world.

Surprise surprise; here's yet another confirmation that Egypt’s internet is actually one of the slowest in the world. Many of us won’t truly understand what that means because we have never been outside of Egypt to experience the pleasures of fast internet. Officially speaking, Speedtest released their market report last Thursday that measured the internet speed performance from around the world. Egypt ranked 146 out of 150 countries, and in Africa we only beat Libya.

For those who care about figures, more than 29.8 million Egyptians are using ADSL internet around the country and the average download speed is only 4.09 Mbps. The country with the fastest internet speed – South Korea –  is downloading at 26.7 Mbps. So we’re basically getting the scraps of the internet world.

The report also indicated that the average mobile download speed was 7.75 Mbps – significantly faster than ADSL Internet. The fastest mobile download speed on modern devices was 8.74 Mbps, thanks to Etisalat!

The company providing the fastest ADSL internet download speed is TE Data, followed by Vodafone.

Overall, mobile internet speed has continuously improved, but we still have a lot of work to do for ADSL. Either that, or we may as well ditch the router and opt for 3G or 4G connection in our homes.
