Yesterday, a 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck near Gaziantep – a southern Turkish city, just north of Syria – in the morning. A few hours later, another 7.5-magnitude tremor then hit, killing 3,381 in Turkey and 1,500 people in Syria, and injuring more than 15,000 people.

Around the globe - including in Egypt - an international aid effort is underway, racing to save the lives of those trapped beneath the debris after thousands of buildings collapsed in both Turkey and Syria. Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sameh Shoukry announced that the Egyptian government is sending urgent relief aid to Turkey, which will contribute to the current search and rescue operations in the country.

Additionally, the government is also sending aid to Syria to lessen the suffering that the earthquake left in its wake.
