Egypt's Central Laboratory Included Among EU's Reference Labs
Egypt’s Central Laboratory for the Analysis of Pesticide Residues and Heavy Metals in Food has been officially recognised by the European Union (EU) - a first for any lab in the MENA region.
In a first for any lab in both the Arab region and across the African continent, Egypt’s Central Laboratory for the Analysis of Pesticide Residues and Heavy Metals in Food has been officially recognised by the European Union (EU) as a national reference lab for the analysis of E. coli.
An EU delegation had been combing through farms throughout Egypt to assess the presence of E. coli, and ventured across a host of laboratories before recognising the expertise of the Central Laboratory in its capacity to conduct the process of analysing the disease.
The decision to include the lab on the official list presents Egypt with the opportunity to play an influential role in knowledge-transfer and expertise-exchange to level-up other labs across the region.
