Cairo Scene

Egypt’s highly-anticipated electric train line - which promises to take passengers on a 460 km trip from Ain El Sokhna to Alamein in under three hours - is getting an extension. Turns out the track from the Red Sea to the North Coast is only the first phase of this new line. The National Authority for Tunnels has confirmed that it’s getting a second phase, which will stretch the line by an additional 200 km from Alamein to Marsa Matrouh.

Construction of the first phase alone will take two years to complete, while no estimate has been given for the opening of the second phase as of yet.
