Egypt to Build Largest Medical Tourism City in Middle East and Africa

Egypt is set become home to the largest medical tourism city in the Middle East and Africa, reports Egypt Today, with Badr City in the north east of Cairo set to host the 109 acre facility. 

Head of the Badr City Development Authority, Ammar Mandour, has revealed that the preliminary inspection of the chosen site has been complete and that 90% of the EGP 20 billion in investments will be from Egyptian investors. 

Aiming to serve both tourists and Egyptians, the city will reportedly be made up of 13 different medical institutions that host a total of 2,000 beds. Other features of the mega-project include an educational hospital, a medical plantation and a medical helipad.

While intended to be characterised by state-of-the-art facilities and equipment, General[Secretary of Badr Univeristy and Medical City, Mohamed Suliman, has said that 10% of the beds will be reserved for the underprivileged, though no further details on this particular point have been revealed. 

Though no dates for the start of construction have been confirmed, it's believed that the project will take five years to execute.
