According to AlBawaba, the Olympic qualifier for African Men's Handball - known as The African Handball Nations Championship - will be held in Egypt from the 21st to the 30th of January, with the winning team booking their tickets to this year's Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

The competition will serve as the qualifier for not only the Olympics but also the World Men's Handball Championship, which will be held in France from the 11th till the 27th of January, 2017. This is not the first time Egypt hosts this competition; it was held here in 2004 and 2010. Egypt also hosted the World Men’s Handball Championship in 1999 and is expected to host it again in 2021.

Egyptians have a great chance at qualifying this year as Egypt’s handball team is one of the best in Africa, winning five out of 21 African Handball Nations Championships between 1974 and 2014. Let's hope our men channel their historic winning ways, giving us another reason to watch the Rio Summer Olympics after the men's national volleyball team won their qualifying match against Tunisia this week.
