Egypt to Launch Gold Exploration Bid for 200 Areas in Eastern Desert
The bid round aims to attract international mining companies and investors.
The Egyptian government is preparing to launch a new international bid round for gold exploration in the Eastern Desert before the end of 2024. The bid round will cover over 200 areas in the region, with the aim of attracting international mining companies and investors.
The move is part of Egypt’s broader efforts to boost its mining sector, particularly in gold exploration. The contract, signed between the Egyptian General Authority for Mineral Resources (EMRA), Canadian company Barrick Gold and mining firm Centamin, pertains to the commercial exploitation of gold and minerals. The two companies previously secured areas for exploration through an international bid three years ago.
