Egyptian Travellers Brought In 194 KG of Duty-Free Gold Over One Month

Egyptian travellers have brought 194 kilograms of gold into Egypt between May 11th and June 11th, according to a statement released by the Egyptian Customs Authority (ECA). Travellers were granted exemption from customs duties and taxes, in light of a decree issued by the Prime Minister on May 10th.

The decree allows citizens returning to Egypt from abroad to bring in up to 150 grams of gold without paying customs until November 2023. Following the issuance of the decree, the cost of a 24-carat gram of gold fell from EGP 2,915 on May 11th to EGP 2,651.5 on June 11th.
