Electric Train to New Administrative Capital to Open in March

The Ministry of Transport is almost ready to open the first and second phase of the LRT electric railway next month. Poised to be a central integrator of Greater Cairo’s fragmented public transportation system, the long-awaited railway runs for 103 kilometres and stops at 19 stations between Adly Mansour El-Salam station and the New Administrative Capital.

Currently, the first two phases are finalising their signalling and communication systems along the tracks. In the meantime, the French RATP Dev company responsible for the management, operation and maintenance of the project for the next 15 years is testing the operations of train cars without passengers.

12 out of 22 of the trains that will operate on the LRT electric railway so far have arrived from China. These trains will run from Adly Mansour through Al-Obour, Al-Shorouk, Al-Mustaqbal, Badr, and the New Administrative Capital, ending at 10th of Ramadan city. The railway connects with the third line of the Cairo Metro, and also offers connections to the new Monorail, a Cairo-Suez railway station, a superjet station, and the Adly Mansour – El Salam bus route.
