Expensive Number

Adding to a long, long list of unnecessary things rich Emirates have bought over the years, a man in UAE purchased a special mobile number for the sumly price of $2.14 million in a charity auction. The number in question is 050 777 7777. We can only assume he thought the seven sevens will grant him immediate access into heaven with seven being a significant number in Islam. But of course, the unnamed buyer did not win ownership rights. All phone numbers are the property of the UAE government and are controlled by the country’s telecoms regulator. We tried to contact the buyer to see what exactly was going on through his head when he made the bid, but ironically the number doesn't actually work. Oh well. Petty cash; at least it went to charity.
