Former Minister Appointed as UN High-Level Climate Action Champion

As part of the ongoing preparations for COP27 in November, Egypt has chosen former Minister of Investment Dr. Mahmoud Mohieldin as the next UN High-Level Climate Action Champion.

 

Currently, Dr. Mohieldin has been undertaking the duties of the United Nations Special Envoy on Financing the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda since February 2020. He is also the Executive Director of the International Monetary Fund, and the World Bank Group’s senior Vice President for the 2030 Development Agenda.

 

Dr. Mohieldin’s tasks will include coordinating with British expert Nigel Topping, the current UN High-Level Climate Action Champion and the Secretariat of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, to raise awareness of the issue of climate change among non-governmental institutions.
