Happy Birthday Marriott!
We have to admit a level of admiration for the ‘you’re only as old as you feel’ mentality.
While big birthdays may find many of us hiding in our rooms, drinking in solitude, and cursing anyone who publicly posts our age on our Facebook timelines, others decide to commemorate the milestone with grace and maturity, and as many well-wishing friends it takes to stave off fatalistic thoughts. Turns out Marriott Hotel & Omar Khayyam Casino is one of the latter. Good for them.
We have to admit a level of admiration for the ‘you’re only as old as you feel’ mentality. Given that the Khedival-era Palace Al Gezirah was finished in 1869, making it 143 years old this year, we can appreciate why they are celebrating their 30th – who amongst us hasn’t turned 23 a few times?
It turns out, however, the hotel isn’t actually ageist; the celebration is for the 30 years that Marriott has managed the property. This is totally different than lying about your age, and is more along the totally socially-acceptable lines of celebrating the birth of your nose job.
On Tuesday, the Palace Al Gezirah’s plastic surgery, Marriott Hotel & Omar Khayyam Casino will celebrate the big 3-0 with an invite-only garden party with all stops pulled, Marriott style. Congratulations, Marriott for making sure Cairo has at least one adequately preserved Khedival palace to excite the out-of-towners.
