Los Compadres: Cuba in Cairo

Havana comes alive at Cairo Jazz Club this Sunday as Egypt's top Buena Vista Social Club tribute act make a much-anticipated return to the stage.

What is the first thing that comes to mind when we say Cuba? Some people will say coffee, some people will say cigars, and some people will say music. Cuba and music go hand in hand, and not just since Dirty Dancing 2: Havana Nights butchered a classic. No, it’s the vibrant culture, the shaking palm trees and the colourful streets that inspire many a musician. And there is hardly a musical inspiration that Cairo Jazz Club has not explored yet.

On Sunday, February 8th, Cairo Jazz Club’s Sunday Night Jazz will have a special flavour, as the tunes of Cuba find their way to Egypt's top music venue. Havana Jazz Club featuring Los Compadres will draw inspiration from Buena Vista Social Club to please your ears with a Jazz sound that revives the bustling streets of Havana with soft guitars and the unique voice of Ashraf Habashy.

Cubans are renowned for their passions for life, love and lust, and these things will find their application in the passionate performance of Havana Jazz Club and Los Compadres. Hear the wind blow in the trees, old men smoking cigars in a barber shop and retro muscle cars rattling down the streets… at least in your head. The true sound of Cuba, however, will be there for you to hear with your very own ears from 10.30pm on Sunday.
