Here Are the Top 5 Egyptian Governorates with the Highest Recycling Rates

The Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) has released a new report that calculates waste recycling rates across Egypt throughout 2017, providing an interesting and surprising insight.

According to the bulletin issued, the ranking goes as follows; Gharbia (97.9% recycling rate), Beheira (97.5%), Kafr El Sheikh (92.3%), Qalyubia (72%) and lastly, Dakahlia, which has a much lower recycling rate at 0.5%. The total recycling rate for the country, meanwhile, stands at 57.5%.

In the last two years, however, the Egyptian population has become vastly more aware of recycling and with more trash sorting and recycling plants in the pipeline, it will be interesting how these figures are effected. Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly has confirmed the establishment of eight new trash sorting facilities in 2019-2020 in five governorates: Cairo, Dakahlia, Sharqeya, Fayoum and Luxor. In addition, 15 mobile trash sorting facilities are to be established in seven governorates: Qalyoubeyah, Damietta, Cairo, Ismailiyah, Beheira, Matrouh, and Beni Suef.
