Hurghada's New University Opens in 2021
The campus in question is currently a branch of Egypt’s South Valley University (which also hosts branches in Qena, Luxor and Aswan), but will soon become fully independent as the Hurghada University.
Imagine your typical college experience except the jocks are freedivers, the intellectuals are marine biologists and everyone else is Russian. Okay we might be stereotyping based on the general undertones of Hurghada living, and also because there's no information on what kinds of faculties they will offer just yet, but we have no doubt going to a university on the Red Sea clearly has its perks. Tanning 101? Field trips to Mahmeya? Advanced hospitality techniques for all you can eat and drink bracelets - all totally viable electives we've just made up.
Hurghada is shedding its seasonal skin and rapidly developing into an all-year-round city. Alongside its younger neighbour El Gouna, it’s being built up as the place to be, somewhere to live and not just visit. Cultural centres, green initiatives, you name it, it’s all there - and now the city has its own university.

It will open in the 2021/2022 academic year, and is expected to change the landscape for local or visiting students looking to complete their higher education.
