ICT Minister Highlights Saudi AI Digital Initiatives at UN Summit

Saudi Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Abdullah Al Swaha, emphasized the Kingdom’s efforts to bridge global disparities in social, economic, and AI development during the UN Summit of the Future session titled “Toward a Common Digital Future.”

Al Swaha highlighted several recent initiatives led by the Kingdom to enhance global digitalization, including the launch of a virtual hospital that has successfully performed numerous specialized surgeries across different countries. He also proposed the establishment of a Digital Cooperation Organization aimed at strengthening the digital economy by creating a unified digital market serving over 800 million people.

The ICT minister underscored AI as a key area where Saudi Arabia has fostered international cooperation. Through its membership on the UN’s AI advisory board, Saudi Arabia has proposed the creation of an independent international scientific committee focused on AI, the launch of a multi-government dialogue on AI governance involving various stakeholders, and the development of a global network for capacity building, among other initiatives.
