Egypt's Mansour Group to Manufacture Chinese Car Brand 'MG' in Egypt

A joint venture agreement is bringing together Egypt's biggest car sales company, Mansour Group, with China's state-owned automotive manufacturer, SAIC Motor - a Fortune 500 company with the highest production volume amongst Chinese automakers. The agreement, signed last week in attendance of Chairman Mohamed Mansour, will see Mansour Automotive Group manufacture the MG car brand in Egypt for the first time.

According to Mansour Automotive's COO, Ankush Arora, the required facilities are already being built, with production set to start within the next year. "We are also unveiling the new MG ZS all-electric SUV, and it will be the first local electric vehicle in the market in Egypt. We will launch it in the coming five months," said Arora to China's Xinhua.

The agreement comes a year after Mansour Group was signed as the exclusive distributor of MG cars in Egypt, however Arora further said that both companies have signed an additional agreement which is set to make Mansour Group the sole distributor of SAIC's products in Sub-Saharan Africa.
