Mia: The New Egyptian Fashion Brand Channelling the Fierceness of Flamenco for the Summer

When you think summer and beachwear, your mind is likely to wonder to flowy bohemian looks, white linen tops and a whole lot of floral everything. Here’s a counter image: living a telenovela fantasy of a flamenca loitering on a beach, as intensely melodramatic Spanish music blasts, or maybe a less intense version with a Lusi Fonsi or a Maluma track playing.

Channeling that intangible allure traditional Spanish garb with ruffled skirts and vintage patterns, moulded into adaptive contemporary pieces that you can strut in all summer long, newly launched Egyptian fashion brand, Mia - Spanish for 'mine' - debuted this year with a SS19 collection that cover all the summer’s needs. Offering everything from fancy cocktail dresses, to casual beachwear, the brand caters to more niche tastes that appreciate the strength and glamour in Spanish fashion.

The line uses trending warm palettes such as off-white and mustard for those afternoon shindigs, and a light pink and scarlet red fit for a night blowout. In true ode to Spanish attire, polka-patterned pieces are equal parts subtle and tantalising. Also featuring crop tops, skirts, cocktail dresses and beachy coverups, the collection is currently exclusively being sold in the North Coast through Jay Egypt and Sooch, available all throughout the summer.

“We’re situated right on the beach to be best available to our customers, which are more of a niche," Mia's Creative Director, Mariam Abdelaziz Ramadan told Cairo Scene. "Sooch was the perfect go-to luxury platform providing the high quality retail experience for both the label and customers.”

Beyond the latest collection, there are also big plans for the rest of 2019.“We’re working on a cocktail gown collection specific for luxury events, followed by a pre-fall line titled ‘Suit Up’. As well as a men’s and kid’s collection down the line,” Ramadan revealed.
