Ministry of Awqaf Announces Plan to Reopen 1,200 Closed Mosques

The Ministry of Awqaf announced that around 1,200 mosques in Egypt will undergo renovations due to poor conditions. The total number of mosques and prayer corners across the country amounts to 153,000.

The announcement was made during the general session of the Senate to discuss requests related to the government's policy on preserving and developing Awqaf funds, renovating and furnishing mosques, and addressing the shortage of imams, preachers, and mosque staff while improving their living conditions. According to the Minister of Awqaf, some mosques and prayer corners were built under specific conditions and with modest means; many have suffered structural damage, and were closed based on engineering reports.
