Ministry of Awqaf Extends Closures of Mosques Nationwide Indefinitely

Egypt will be extending its closure of mosques to daily prayers and Friday congregations nationwide indefinitely, according to Minister of Awqaf Mohamed Gomaa, in an effort to contain the spread of COVID-19.

This follows the ministry’s decision on March 21st to temporarily suspend Friday congregations and group prayers in mosques across the nation for two weeks. The minister added in the cabinet statement that all of Egypts’ mosques will continue to be closed for prayers indefinitely pending further developments of the pandemic.
