NBCUniversal Studios will Put Their Theatrical Releases Straight to On-Demand Platforms

In an unprecedented move, NBCUniversal announced that they’ll be putting their current roster of films on to on-demand platforms at the exact same time that they hit theatres during the Coronavirus pandemic. This starts March 20th with movies like ‘The Invisible Man’, ‘The Hunt’ and ‘Emma’. The movies will be available for a 48-hour rental period at around $19.99 USD, although this price will be adjusted for international markets. While insiders say that this policy won’t apply to the rest of the year’s releases, and while we’re not clear on whether all these movies - including the likes of ‘Trolls World Tour’ on April 10th - will be available here in Egypt, this move has been compared to the opening of Pandora’s Box. Will other studios follow suit? Will they ever be able to go back to having a theatrical gap again? Stay tuned!
