NYC Mayor Adds Eid Holidays to Public School Calendar
The largest school district in the USA just got two extra days off.
When the muslim community tried to build a mosque and Islamic community centre near to the site of 9/11 attacks, a massive backlash from ignorant New Yorkers and middle America erupted, which is why it comes as complete shock that New York Mayor Bill de Blasio have announced that the largest school district in the country will be adding Eid al-Adha and Eid al-Fitr to the school holiday schedule.
Today we'll announce the addition of Eid al-Adha & al-Fitr to @NYCSchools holiday schedule, a change that respects the diversity of our city

Confirming the news via Twitter, Mayor de Blasio announced that newly observed holidays is a way to “respect the diversity of our city.”
In the coming 2015-2016 school year, schools will close on September 24th for Eid al-Adha, while Eid al-Fitr, which falls over the summer, will be designated as a holiday for those attending summer school.
As one can imagine the news has been met with mixed reaction on multiple social media platforms.

@billdeblasio @nycschools The people who are going to scream about this, have no idea how many students are absent on these days.

@BilldeBlasio Awesome! Couldn't think of a better politician to take the lead on this. You've made a lot of Muslim Americans in NYC happy.
