Netflix Refugee Drama ‘The Swimmers’ Nominated for BAFTA Award

Awards (BAFTA) in the Outstanding British Film Category. The film, directed by Egyptian-Welsh filmmaker Sally El Hosaini, follows the inspiring story of swimmers Yusra and Sara Mardini’s journey from war-torn Syria to the 2016 Rio Olympics.

The Netflix film has been making waves since its release, debuting as the opening for Toronto International Film Festival, premiering regionally at the Cairo International Film Festival, and topping Netflix’s global streaming charts. ‘The Swimmers’ stars real-life Lebanese sisters Nathalie and Manal Eissa as the heroic Mardini sisters, as well as Egyptian actor Ahmed Malek, Syrian actress Kinda Alloush, and Palestinian actor Ali Suliman.
