Nour El Nemr Redesigns Hospital Spaces to Help Boost Patients' Spirits

Emotional and psychological morale has been proven time and time again to be one of the defining factors in helping patients overcome cancer. But how does one effectively address that alongside the treatment plan? Well, we don’t have the answer - but Nour El Nemr just might. Having carved out a unique space for herself in the design world since her time in university, El Near is what you could call a ‘healthcare designer’, crafting entire experiences for medical institutions and hospitals.

Aiming to shift the way we think about the medical field, Nour’s projects redesign everything that the patient sees during their time in the hospital. From their nursing gowns, curtains, cushions, playrooms, and even the scent of their rooms, El Nemr tries to make their hospital stay as warm, comfortable, and uplifting as possible.

El Nemr was recently given the Anissa Hassouna Award launched by Amwal Al Ghad, which recognises people who have significant impact in the field of charitable and humanitarian work. Throughout her career, she’s worked with Baheya Foundation, Al Nas Hospital, Magdi Yacoub Heart Foundation, Dar El Salam Cancer Hospital, the National Plasma Project, the National Cancer Centre, and 57357 Childrens’ Cancer Hospital among many others to draw smiles on patients’ faces.

Currently 25-years-old, El Nemr is the founder of Nour El Nemr Design Studio, having graduated from the American University in Cairo with a bachelor’s degree in political science, and a double minor in business and economics.
