During a meeting with the Egyptian cabinet, Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly emphasised the significance of accurately documenting the number of refugees and immigrants residing in the country, estimated to be between 8 and 9 million individuals from 133 different countries.

Minister of Health and Population, Khaled Abdel-Ghaffar, revealed that the refugee population consists of 50.4 percent males and 49.6 percent females, with an average age of 35. The majority of refugees in Egypt reside in five key governorates, namely Cairo, Giza, Alexandria, Dakahlia and Damietta.

Abdel-Ghaffar further explained that 60 percent of refugees have been living in Egypt for a decade, with 6 percent having integrated into Egyptian society over the past 15 years. Regarding immigrants, he noted that 37 percent of the immigrant population are engaged in stable employment within established companies.

According to the International Organization for Migration (IOM), Sudanese nationals constitute the largest group among migrants in Egypt, with four million individuals, followed by Syrians (1.5 million), Yemenis (one million), and Libyans (one million). These four nationalities make up 80 percent of the international migrant population living in Egypt.
