Objection Phase Begins for 2024 Presidential Elections Candidates

The National Elections Authority (NEA), under the leadership of Judge Hazem Badawy, has initiated the process of receiving objections from candidates for the upcoming 2024 presidential elections. Candidates are allowed to raise objections against the candidacy of others, providing reasons to support their claims.

The objection period, which commenced Tuesday, October 17th, is set to continue until Wednesday, October 18th. As per the NEA, any individual who has applied for candidacy can object to other applications, citing specific reasons for their objections.

The NEA has established a timeframe from October 19th to October 21st for examining candidacy applications and adjudicating objections. On October 22nd, candidates who have been excluded from the final list will be officially notified of the decision and the reasons behind their exclusion.

As of now, four candidates have submitted their nomination papers for the presidential elections. The candidates include the incumbent President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, Farid Zahran, the head of the Egyptian Democratic Party, Abdel-Sanad Yamama, the head of the Wafd Party, and Hazem Omar, the head of the Republican People's Party.

Following the completion of the necessary legal procedures for candidacy, each candidate will choose an electoral symbol from a selection of 15 predefined symbols, such as the star, the sun, the lion, and the horse. The final list of candidates' names and their respective electoral symbols will be announced on November 9th.
